CryoTherapy is totally non-intrusive and non-invasive and leaves guests with a feeling of well-being and experiencing a natural healing process that lasts up to six weeks or more.
CRYOTHERAPY - the process
On arrival at AquaCity's contemporary, newly opened CryoTherapy Centre, guests are issued with moisture free, cotton t-shirt, shorts, head band, mittens, socks, a mask for the nose and mouth and wooden clogs.
The centre's medical staff then undertakes a brief medical questionnaire, to establish any medical history and clients' suitability to continue with the treatment.
In small groups, participants are taken into the CryoTherapy ante-chamber, chilled to minus 60 degrees C, before entering the main chamber via a connecting inner door. Here the temperature is minus 120 degrees C.
Participants are told to breathe regularly through the mouth and to walk slowly, avoiding touching the skin.
After the required time, usually up to 2 minutes, participants exit via the ante-chamber, to acclimatise to the sharp rise in temperature, and clogs, socks, mittens and masks are removed, for 20 minutes' vigorous exercise.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE PROCESS?
The skin temperature falls by around 3 - 4 degrees C, yet the core body temperature remains virtually unchanged. Circulation improves, hormones and enzymes are released to start the natural healing process.
HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE RECOMMENDED?
In order to gain long term benefit, up to 10 sessions are recommended, though most people notice the positive effects after just a few sessions.
